Talking it out

The longer I am on the journey, the more I believe that you must talk it out.
By that, I mean that you must share your experiences. Write it down, journal it, blog it... talk about it with friends, relatives, anyone who will lend an ear.

This is not something easily done alone. We need support. We need encouragement. We need feedback and advice. Yes, we even need contructive criticism.

It's the hiding away that's caused many of us to gain this weight. We stopped talking about it. We stopped doing anything about it. We shut down and hid from it.

Those days must come to a stop. We have to learn to admit it, confront it, fight it, and beat it.

Do you read a lot of weight loss / healthy lifestyle blogs? Do you comment on them? Do you offer your support and advice?

Has it helped you to lose weight? Has it motivated and inspired you?

Do you send links to your blog to your friends and family and invite them to cheer you on?

This can be such a lonely undertaking -- losing weight. People who have never experienced being overweight cannot understand the struggle. But they CAN particpate in the journey -- if we let them.

I hope that I am supportive of others on this journey. I hope that my comments are seen as positive, productive, and caring.

We can share the joys and triumphs... offer a shoulder... shed a sympathetic tear. Together, we can succeed.

I wish you all the very best of success on your journey.

I have lost my weight before only to gain it back. I am working on an over all health challenge to improve body, mind, and soul. But I am having a heard time pushing through the first part. Keep gaining and losing the same 5 pounds.

I'll be checking back with you to see how you're doing.

How true! I get a lot of support through my blog and I do try to comment as often as possible on others blogs.

Funny about the IRL people though, they are as supportive but don't read my blog. None of my family members read it and one of my best friends did for awhile.

This is so true!

I have found blogging to be most helpful to me. I'm a talker and writer and sometimes when I'm writing a post something will just pop out of me that surprises me. Then I know that there is that one issue to deal with and I can deal with it.

I also have become more open in sharing what I go through in this battle with my husband. I've never opened up to him so much before and I know it has really helped me. He offers support, love, a listening ear and even constructive criticism when needed.

Great post and oh, so true!! I hope everyone has someone or something they are using to express what they are going through.

I have always been a junkie for weight loss success stories. If I couldn't see evidence of success out there in the world, I'm not sure I would believe I could do it. But my family and most friends do not know about my blog. I do have two friends and my sister who are aware I am on a plan, and we talk about weight loss (they're working on it too)but they do not know about my blog. Don't know that I'll ever change in that regard.

I comment around just to try and offer my encouragement. Blogging is great and the support can really help.

I'm glad to be part of this community.

I have to admit, I don't always comment!

However, I am trying to do better because I realized how supportive everyone has been to me when commenting on my blog.

My family says they read my blog, but they do not follow me or ever comment. (My sister does sent me private emails making comments every once in a while, so I know she reads it!)

The support we receive from others can truly make a difference!

I really appreciate all your kind remarks on my blog:

I am following you now and promise to keep commenting! :)

I really like it when my family and friends read my blog. In fact, I created it for them in the first place. I find that they don't listen to me if I tell them something out loud, but if they read it they are more likely to listen to my dietary advice :) Strange, but true!

What you said is so true!! We need to share our experiences and thoughts with others to make it work.

Lately I've started exchanging food logs with a HS friend and I think it's great motivation, to keep each other in check and basically just sharing, knowing that we are not alone is SO helpful!!
